Well I feel I have finally achieved something that I have set out to do. My life is full of half-finished projects and ideas, I take on far too much. Still, I bought the journals, got the bits and pieces and set to work.
- Buy a copy of The Big Issue from the nice man outside Sainsbury’s
- Cut up the inspiring bits from the forementioned magazine
- Create an inspiring collage to set some motivation for 2009
- Glue it all together and take a picture
- Feel smug for at least few moments
It isn’t much but so far means a fair bit for me. I have finished something I started, and this year is going to be full of lots of those things.

Having followed the advice from another blog, I went out and bought my journal. I don’t think I’ll be able to fill it each month, but I have it for 2009 at least.
One thing I didn’t have, which became apparent when I began to pull together my first page, was some decent glue. I had several simple glue sticks, but I thought they may not be sufficient to handle some heavy duty glueing.
So off I went this morning to grab hold of some Copydex. The glue of my childhood. I found it in the local WHSmiths, which was good. I got home and immediately unscrewed the cap and smelt the memories return. Being a good boy I didn’t linger too long on the smell.
It is interesting to notice how many thoughts resurface when the sense of smell is ignited. When I look back on my life there are several smells that every so often drift across my memory. And they are not all positive, and some remind me of times I’d rather forget… but then those times are also part of who we are.
Still, I have my journal, I have the collage pieces and now I have the glue… in my way is mere procrastination, I shall overcome.

So I ordered some serious molekines. These are not the everyday notebook ones but the hardcore art ones. Thicker paper, almost card like. I bought a large size and a pocket size and you can see them in the picture.
I will be journaling a lot more this year and more and seeing how much Amazon wanted for these two I snapped them up. And they arrived in two days on the free delivery service, so even better.
I’ll be scanning anything I create or may even use the cam to record some of the stuff. One of the advantages of the moleskine is its little back pocket. Here I’ll be collecting any magazine bits that I want to stick in and use as part of the journal.
